New to calligraphy?

Meet your tutor

Hey, I’m Ellie,

I am a lettering artist and calligrapher based in Halifax. I have worked as a graphic designer for over 15 years, but my love for the written word led me to pursue calligraphy.

My journey started in 2016 when I got some brush pens to try during my maternity leave. My little experiment soon turned into an obsession. Since then I have continued to develop my skills. I love experimenting with new materials, inks and textures, taking new classes in different calligraphy styles.

I create private commissions and wedding stationery but what I love most of all is sharing my passion for this beautiful art with new friends.

Whether you are looking for a new creative outlet or a fun way to spend a few hours, it would be an absolute delight to walk you through the first steps of your own calligraphy journey.

The Location

The Engine Room | F Mill • Dean Cloug • Halifax • HX3 5AX

The Engine Room at Dean Clough combines local character with modern relaxed ambience. What better location for our calligraphy workshops?

The cafe is located near the Travelodge hotel. With plenty of car parking spaces directly outside the entrance, the Engine Room is easily accessible.
The venue will be closed to the public so we can take full advantage of this beautiful creative space.

Dean Clough offers plenty to do on a weekend so you can explore its many restaurants, galleries and shops after our class.
